About Development International
Development International (DI) is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization that works to enhance global development by making it an empowering resource for local communities—the ultimate stakeholders—by helping them take control of their own development initiatives. DI promotes community centered development (CCD) through a place-based systems approach, since local stakeholders are the ultimate experts in understanding their development needs and affecting meaningful solutions. DI partners with local communities through civil society, government, academia, and businesses in the host country to conceptualize the best ways to address those needs, and connects these groups to counterparts in the United States and elsewhere to truly render global development through partnerships based on shared knowledge and goals. These global partnerships help the project client imagine and design the most appropriate projects that are well-configured specifically for the local environmental, cultural, social, and commercial context. DI facilitates projects through a uniquely innovative process for presentation to global development funders worldwide. Such projects address a specific community-assessed need, but more importantly, help communities to achieve a higher level of development by empowering themselves through local ownership, control, knowledge sharing, and decision making. |
Development International MissionThe mission of DI is to help host country communities and stakeholders address their assessed needs in order to ensure their resilience and sustainability by bringing together public agencies, civil society organizations, academia, and the commercial sector to help formulate local solution strategies that contribute to their empowerment, while enhancing cultural enrichment, environmental resilience, economic vitality, and social justice. |
